New MLA Membership Benefits !

MLA is working hard to increase the value that you receive with your membership to MLA. Here are just a few current projects:

  • Drexel University’s online Master of Science in Library and Information Science (ALA accredited) and Master of Science in Information Systems programs are available at a discounted rate for MaLA members. Graduate level certificates in Database Technology, Competitive Intelligence, Software Engineering, and Digital Information are also offered.

Massachusetts Library Association members qualify for a special Librarians’ Incentive Grant equal to 20% off the regular tuition on Drexel’s Information Science/Systems programs. When applying, use “MaLA” as your affiliation code. Drexel is now accepting applications for Master’s programs beginning on March 28, 2005 and the application deadline is February 1, 2005.

For more information or to apply, click here: http://www.elearningforlibrarians.net.

  • The Public Library Association is coming to Boston in 2006 and MLA members will receive PLA member conference rates. That could amount to over $100 in savings! Stay tuned for the details.
  • MLA subscribes to the Commonwealth News Service, a network of radio stations throughout Massachusetts that will help spread the word about libraries. MLA has been identifying stories for broadcast. The first one was on banned books week. Tune into one of these stations for others.
  • MLA is looking for ways to make use of ALA’s Smartest Card campaign. We’ll attend a meeting at Midwinter in Boston to get the latest ideas.
  • MLA members receive a discount on distance education courses they take through Drexel University.  An academic member currently taking advantage of this benefit says “The generosity of the discount is definitely a factor in my decision to join MLA” She is saving 20% on each course thanks to MLA!
  • MLA is working on recruiting new members. Our goal is to reach 1000 members in 2005. We have plans to celebrate that 1000th member. Could it be you?
