PROPOSAL FROM THE MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE
TO INCREASE MEMBERSHIP DUES
The Membership Committee proposes a new fee structure
for MLTA:
-
Annual membership fee $25
-
Rate for seniors 65 and over $20
-
Lifetime Membership Category $100
-
Discount of $25 for full board membership renewal
Rationale:
MLTA has not increased its membership fee of $15 for many years, while
expenses have gone up for the newsletter production, printing,
editorial services and postage. Expenses for the organization are kept
to a minimum because the secretary and treasurer work as volunteers
and do not draw any salary. Since our only source of income is
membership fees, MLTA needs to increase income in order to cover
newsletter and other expenses and pay for its share of initiatives,
workshops and symposia offered at no cost to members, either alone or
jointly with MBLC or MFOL.
The new membership fees go into effect for all new
memberships beginning January 1, 2003. All current members will be
asked to pay the new rate when they come up for renewal under the
rolling renewal process voted a year ago. The membership brochure will
be redesigned to reflect the fee structure changes.
