Joint Student ALA/MLA Membership
​If you're currently enrolled as a library school student, you may obtain membership in both American Library Association (ALA) and MLA for a special discounted rate.

How it works
To obtain this special membership, you must be an actively enrolled student, complete the form on the ALA website, and list your school in their registration form. Once you have activated your ALA membership, MLA receives an auto-generated email which will prompt MLA to create and activate your MLA membership. As of this time, the process does not work conversely (join MLA to obtain an ALA membership)

How renewals work
Renewals are not automatic. You may renew on the ALA website if you are still a student. Once you graduate, you can apply for a standard membership on the MLA website.

Joint NELA/MLA Membership
Individual MLA members can take advantage of a special discounted rate to the New England Library Association (NELA).

How it works
To obtain this special membership, you should select the appropriate membership level on MLA's member join form. Once MLA has received payment for your membership, MLA will send a report to NELA to indicate that you have selected this membership and NELA will activate your separate NELA membership. As of this time, the process does not work conversely (join NELA to obtain a joint MLA membership).

How renewals work
Renewals are not automatic; you may renew on the MLA website when you're ready to renew.

A note about Organizational Memberships
Organizational memberships do not have the option to add the discounted NELA rate. Please obtain a separate NELA membership directly with NELA. Existing organizational memberships with the NELA discount rate is only applicable to the membership main contact and will be valid up until the expiration date of their current membership.

Some additional information

Membership activation and duration
Your membership will be activated after your payment (or notification from ALA, if applicable) is received and processed by MLA. All memberships run for one year and fees are non-refundable. Your membership does not renew automatically.

Check payments
If you are paying by check, please print out your invoice and send it along with your payment to Massachusetts Library Association, PO Box 901, Bellingham, MA 02019. Please allow up to eight (8) weeks for processing.

Credit card payments
Credit card payments will be processed immediately upon submission. If you pay by credit card, you will receive a separate payment confirmation email.

W-9 form
